Course Description

Introduction to Photography is a short, practical workshop for adults who are interested in developing their photography skills. In the course you will learn how to use your digital camera, what the different functions and buttons do and you'll spend lots of time outside taking photos and getting practical advice.

The course runs with workshops on two different weekend days (usually Saturdays, a a few weeks apart). This allows you to practise your new skills between the workshops and to get help and advice based on the photos you've taken. You should attend both days and have time to take some photos between the two.

Is this the right course for you?
  • Do you want to learn how to take great photos using your camera's manual (M) mode?
  • Do you want to get better at taking a range of photos including portraits, landscapes, still life and more?
  • Do you want to learn how to correctly set your camera's aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance and how to use your camera's light meter to help you choose the correct settings?
  • Do you want to know more about your camera's different modes and when to switch between them?
  • Do you want to learn the basics of photo editing and how best to keep your photos organised?

If you answered yes to the questions above, this course will be perfect for you!
